Ashby School is a large mixed comprehensive school in Ashby-de-la-Zouch which accommodates up to 1700 students aged 14 to 19.
The school contacted Ergo because they wanted to update their complete IT infrastructure. Some of the issues the school were facing with their current IT network included ICT usage expanding beyond their current systems capability, and the Network Team were unable to respond quickly enough to the demands of users. It was also taking too long for staff and students to log-on, plus their current infrastructure had become restrictive, primarily due to the management software being used.
Prior to implementation, Ergo held several meetings with the Management Team of Ashby School to ascertain the exact requirements of what they would like their new IT network to do; below is a snapshot of these requests:
§ A fully working system that allows both staff and students to login and carry out their tasks i.e. launching applications, save their work and provide a secure environment in regards to security of applications, windows settings and file/resource access.
§ Allow various other systems to be used and incorporated in order to provide facilities such as document archiving, MIS and intranet services.
§ Flexibility to allow improvements to the system and to meet the needs of the School’s ICT requirements.
§ Smoother migration to future upgrades in regards operating systems, applications, configuration changes and backup system(s).
By delivering an IT network and infrastructure that was designed by the school’s management team using their management and technical goals, as well as being highly resilient, expandable and also modular, which means a number of multiple technologies can be attached to the network as the school moves forward, Ergo fully met and exceeded all of Ashby School’s requirements for an IT infrastructure refresh.
