What is RoHS compliance?

The EU's Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive dictates that all electrical and electronic products sold after 1st July 2006 should not contain more than the maximum permitted concentrations of the following chemicals:

lead (Pb)
mercury (Hg)
cadmium (Cd)
hexavalent chromium (CrVI)
polybrominated biphenyls (PBB)
polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE)

These materials present an environmental hazard when buried in landfills, and a health hazard to those involved in the manufacturing and recycling industries.

Ergo is working towards ensuring that all of its products are RoHS compliant by the July 1st 2006 deadline.
